Rough Diamond (The Diamond Series, #1)

by
Owner of the Diamond Saloon and Theater, Alice Reynolds is astounded when a fancy Englishman offers to buy her saloon. She won’t be selling her saloon to anyone, let alone a man with a pretty, empty-headed grin…but then, she reckons that grin just might be a lie, and a man of intelligence and cunning resides beneath.

Rupert Llewellyn has another purpose for offering to buy the pretty widow’s saloon—the coal buried deep in land she owns. However, he never banked on her knowing eyes making him weak at the knees, or how his deception would burn upon his soul.

Each determined to outwit the other, they tantalize and tease until passion explodes. But can their desire bridge the lies told and trust broken?

Fool's Gold (The Diamond Series, #2)

Cassandra grew up daydreaming, inventing fantastical worlds and marvelous adventures. Once she learned to read (First phrase – To the Beach. True story), she was never without a book, reading of other people’s fantastical worlds and marvelous adventures.

Fairy tales, Famous Fives, fantasies and fancies; horror stories, gumshoe detectives, science fiction; Cassandra read it all. Then she discovered Romance and a true passion was born.

So, once upon a time, after making a slight detour into the world of finance, Cassandra tried her hand at writing. After a brief foray into horror, she couldn’t discount her true passion. She started to write Romance and fell deep.

The love affair exists to this very day.

Serena Reborn: The Final Battle by Lachelle Redd Review ~Kami

Serena Reborn: The Final Battle

by

This is the final installment of the story begun with The Wood Sprite's Tale . I was struck immediately by how much more polished this story was than the first one. Serena has left her home and Fernand is on a quest to find her. There is an interesting back story explaining how Heithar became evil. This story is very dark and at times gory. This is a very talented writer and her work only gets better and better. She writes dark and morbid very well. 5 stars.

Triad Awakening (The Triad Trilogy, #1) by Michael Grigsby Review ~Kami

Triad Awakening (The Triad Trilogy, #1)

by
http://www.amazon.com/Michael-Grigsby/e/B00BQ17B4A/ref=ntt_athr_dp_pel_1

Sixteen-year-old Hagan Curtis is having a rough time and then he hears disembodied voices telling him to “find her”. A strange symbol from Hagan's English class matches the one that he finds in his dead brother's room. Then three spectral visitors show up. I thought it was funny that Hagan is reading King Lear in his English class, because when the three “weird sisters” show up, that reminded me of Macbeth. All the visitors yell is “Find Her!”. I wasn't sure how I felt about the story in the beginning. I didn't have an immediate connection to the characters. The story seemed kind of bland in the beginning but then it took a weird, supernatural turn. There are different realms, is what is explained to Hagan. Realm of Water, Mist, Flesh, Blood, the beings from these different realms are commonly referred to as humans, ghosts, zombies and vampires. There are portals that connect the realms. Hagan is part of a triad to police the realms. This book started getting really good and exciting after that and I was enjoying it. 4 stars.

Closure by Kim Carmichael Review ~Kami

Closure

by

Margaret Collins changed her name and escaped her life because of her heart being broken by Mike Taylor. He humiliated her when she was 17 years old, then 17 years later she meets him again and he doesn't remember her. A lot of women have that one man who got away, the one man that they judge all other men against, for Riley that is Mike. This guy is a total take charge alpha male and Riley loves it. I personally don't go the submissive route, so I wouldn't like a guy telling me what to do and ordering for me at dinner. I think Mike is kind of a jerk and Riley shouldn't fall for it. But she seems to like being told what to do. The two of them are very naughty and erotic together. This book is for mature, over 18 audiences only. 4 stars.

Born (Born #1) by Tara Brown Review ~Kami

Born (Born #1)

19-year-old Emma is a survivor in a post-apocalyptic world. It has been ten years since the sickness and now she is on her own. Her only friend is a wolf, Leo. Em has survived by being a coward and hiding. Then there is a knock on her door and her solitary existence is shattered. Em meets 16-year-old Anna and her brother, 21-year-old Jake. Em had a survivalist father so she knows how to survive on her own. I don't know why it took me this long to read something by this author, she is amazing. The writing is outstanding. I am just in awe. I am going to need to pick up some more books by her. She is seriously an incredible writer. This book ends on a cliffhanger. Have to get the next book and find out what happens. 5 stars.

Vital Signs by Emily Walker Review ~Kami

Vital Signs

by
http://www.selfpublishordie.com/

Vlad harvests human organs and sells them for money to the Russian mob. He steals an ambulance. The theft of the ambulance seemed too easy to me. It was unlocked, there was medication close by that he used to subdue his victims. Maybe EMT's aren't concerned about anyone messing with their parked ambulance, but it seems like they should at least keep the doors locked. This story was pretty gruesome with the slice and dice. It reminded me of popular slasher movies. It just seems to me that it was just too easy. No one questions Vlad at all. The writing is good and the pacing is good. The concept is interesting but it didn't quite come together for me. 3.5 stars.

Genre: YOUNG ADULT

Book description:

How do you cope when the people you care for hurt you the most? When the way you feel on the outside, smothers you on the inside. And when you are left to face your demons alone, will you learn that only you have the power to overcome them?

Charlie has never had it easy. Between the constant moving and the incessant fat comments and jokes from her father, her self-worth is nonexistent. Her reflection in the mirror shows her nothing but a plain Jane. Music is the only thing that keeps her sanity in check.

Charlie catches the eye of the town star quarterback, Maverick. With her curves, her brunette hair, and the voice of an angel, Maverick has never met anyone like her. Everything that is different about Charlie just makes Maverick like her more. Unfortunately, Charlie doesn’t see it herself.

Proving it to her may deem harder than he thinks, especially when tragedy strikes and tears them apart.

Now standing on her own two feet she may finally learn exactly who she is, what’s she’s capable of and how very un plain Jane she really is.

Nanee's Review:

I don't know how I can describe this book other than to say its amazing....The writer created a story that will make you cry, extremely pissed off, and giggly happy.

I absolutely love Charlie and Maverick's characters. Charlie has a tough life she is verbally abused by her father and ignored by her mother. Her father seems to hate her but Charlie doesn't understand why. Charlie lives a life of sadness, of self loathing, and Loneliness When a sexy guy pays her attention and calls her gorgeous and loves her she can't come to terms with it, she doesn't believe it.

Maverick is the captain of the football team, sexy as sin and wanted by every girl in the school. He has the most loving parents and has friends galore. But all he wants is Charlie. He thinks she's perfect, beautiful, sweet and amazing.

The author writes a touching story of a beautiful, caring girl who thinks the worst of herself, she thinks she's fat and ugly and never had anyone in her life to tell her different. I felt for Charlie from the beginning. I wanted to be her BFF, I wanted to tell her how beautiful and wonderful she is. I loved that Tori took her under her wing. Tori is a best friend that everyone needs. She made Charlie feel wanted, and cared for and was always there to catch her when she falls. I had a great friend in high school like that and I tell you it makes life better. I enjoyed the relationship between Charlie and Maverick , from the first hello, to the first kiss, to the I loves you then to the pushing each other away. This story has it all. This author is a amazing writer and will go far. I have to give it a 5 star but love to give it more...can't wait for book 2.....

The thought of an evil dentist freaks me out before I even started reading the story. The idea is terrifying. The thought of torture by someone pulling out your teeth, eeek. I immediately start thinking of the movie Marathon Man. "Is it safe?" (shudder)

So, dentists are already scary. This particular dentist is a demon and he is extracting souls. This is a well-written quick read. It is very much a macabre short story. It reminded me of Nightmare on Elm Street, since the victims die in their nightmares. It is a definite spooky, clever, little story that I should probably not have read right before going to bed. But since it was so short and interesting, I wanted to finish it. The narrative immediately draws you in and you just have to keep reading to find out how it will end. Overall, though, dentists are still scary, this story was more darkly humorous. It was funny, in a violent, twisted sort of way. 5 stars.

The Evil Queen by Lachelle Redd Review ~Kami

The Evil Queen

by
http://thehotcauldron.blogspot.com/

This story takes place after The Wood Sprite's Tale , and it is partly told from the witch, Heither's point of view. Heither is plotting revenge and is up to no good. Lilly and Fernand are preparing for their upcoming wedding. I think I was liking this short story better than the first one, The Wood Sprite's Tale. The story drew me in and I was immediately curious as to where it was going, so I had to continue reading. It is another fast paced story. There are a few editing and grammar errors but other than that it was really good. 4 stars.

The Hot Cauldron by Lachelle Redd Review ~Kami

The Hot Cauldron

by

This is a collection of short stories.

At the End of Her Whip is about an investigation into an apparent suicide.

In Burned Secrets, Viola, travels back home because her mother and grandmother died in a house fire set by Viola's mother. “The trip would take her through the small rundown towns in the back woods of Mississippi where having one red light to the entire town was the norm and if you saw a dollar store
you were really uptown.”

In Another Day at the Office, Dillan meets Chase who delivers funeral supplies.

The Wedding Nite is a creepy little tale about a cursed bride.

In the story The Next Room, Maggie has writer's block.

In the story Whelan Castle, Amilya and Thad are getting married.

In The Sulfur Springs Coven, Lady Ella Mae Ross is dying and tells a story.

Curse of the Blue Diamond starts with Tucker and Kendall building a fireplace and then Kendall finding an old diary.

The Hunger is the story of a post-apocalyptic world.

This collection of short stories is really good. There are ghosts, witches, curses and werewolves. A lot of the stories are very short but they are all very compelling and intriguing. The tone of the stories is at times sad and poignant and at other times creepy and filled with dread. The pacing of each story is really good. I thought they were all well-written. The characters in each story are very interesting. 4 stars.

The Wood Sprite's Tale by Lachelle Redd Review ~Kami

The Wood Sprite's Tale

by
http://thehotcauldron.blogspot.com/

The beginning of this story and the description of the wood sprites reminded me a lot of Tinkerbell and the Disney fairies. The wood sprites are getting ready to change the seasons. They use human items like paperclips and thimbles in their house which kind of reminded me of the Borrowers. Serena is really adventurous and ventures to the forbidden area of the forest. A sorceress tells Serena that she has to break the witch's curse and save everybody. This is a very fast paced little adventure story. I was enjoying the little quest that the sprites go on to defeat the witch. There are a lot of archetypal things going on but I thought it was entertaining and interesting. 4 stars.

Bloodline of the Black Dragon by Lachelle Redd Review ~Kami

Bloodline of the Black Dragon

Queen Lira does not approve of the arranged marriage for her son, Caleb and so they travel to seek advice from a witch. The tone of this story is very high fantasy which I enjoyed. It is a well-written tale. I was not getting too deeply involved in the characters. Since this story is short there wasn't a whole lot of back story for the characters. The description is good and not too heavily laden with adjectives, and idioms which can bog down the action. I thought the story was interesting and that it flowed well. It had the feel of a fable or fairy tale. 4 stars.

Determined To Live (Zombie Overload, #4) by C.M. Wright Review ~Kami

Determined To Live (Zombie Overload, #4)

by
http://www.zombieoverload.com/

This is book four in the series about Canada and her family trying to survive in a post zombie apocalyptic world. I really liked books 1 and 2 a lot. Book 3 was not my favorite because I don't like Jake. I don't like how he takes advantage of Canada. This is a sign of a good writer that she can craft her characters so well that they live and breathe and jump off the page. Will has taken off and Canada and Jake go off to try to find him. Canada acts in ways that scare her family. I like the bad-ass, crazy Canada. I like her strong, take-charge attitude. Bad things happen. Revelations are made. More survivors are found. And there is plenty of zombie killing action. This book is so exciting and scary! It has got to be the best of the four books. I loved books 1 and 2 so much but this one is even better. This one was amazing. I seriously loved it. 5 stars.

Taking on the Dead (The Famished Trilogy #1) by Annie Walls Review

Taking on the Dead (The Famished Trilogy #1)

by
http://www.anniewalls.com/p/main-page.html

This book was gifted to me by the author for an honest review. Thank You!

It has been four years since zombies started eating people, and Kansas is surviving on her own. This is a well-written zombie book. I like that Kansas fights with a machete and a crossbow. I have always thought that guns aren't good weapons for the zombie apocalypse because you will run out of bullets. You can re-use arrows, like Daryl Dixon does on The Walking Dead. I like that the author mentions how horrible the zombies' rotting corpses smell and how Kansas was about to vomit when she smelled them. They call the old, nasty, rotting zombies, putrids. I like all the descriptions of Kansas' survival gear. Kansas comes across a group of four survivors and takes them in. I was reminded of The Walking Dead through a lot of this book. Kansas goes to a town that reminded me of Woodbury. Kansas' father was a survivalist so she has a lot of knowledge which I thought was interesting. I really enjoyed reading about Kansas' survival in a zombie overrun world. 4 stars.

Seduced In The Dark by CJ Roberts review by Nanee

Book Description:

Seduced in the Dark What is the price of redemption? Rescued from sexual slavery by a mysterious Pakistani officer, Caleb carries the weight of a debt that must be paid in blood. The road has been long and fraught with uncertainty, but for Caleb and Livvie, it?s all coming to an end. Can he surrender the woman he loves for the sake of vengeance? Or will he make the ultimate sacrifice? Praise for Seduced in the Dark: ?To the returning readers of this series, I can say this... You absolutely won't be disappointed.

Nanee's Review
Book two of this Duet is just as amazing as the first but leaves you breathless....the writer creates even more mysterious multi layered characters. As a reader I knew I had to have experience this book, just like the first you get drawn in and can't get out. I read the book in two days ( had to sleep!) You learn more about Caleb and his character is so fascinating to me, strong, resilient and determined to get his revenge and determined to keep himself hidden away from his feelings for Livie. He has a hard time getting past the revenge he's been waiting a lifetime to deliver...Will he surrender the only person that's ever meant anything to him or will he dare to give up the revenge and give himself to someone who loves him ( those feelings are foreign to Caleb). Livie is ready to have a emotional breakdown as she's being interrogated and kept hidden. She can't stop thinking about Caleb, she wants to be back with him, but she's got to keep her cool with the agent or she'll reveal secrets about her life and Caleb's background. I loved the part where she's thinking she's imaging Caleb in her dreams and the way she treats both the agent and the psychologist. I won't spoil too much but want to say everybody has to read this story (series) you will be so taken by this story your head will spin. Thank you to CJ Roberts for sharing this amazing story.

Captive In the Dark by CJ Roberts review by Nanee

 Book Description:

BOOK ONE OF THE DARK DUET: Caleb is a man with a singular interest in revenge. Kidnapped as a young boy and sold into slavery by a power-hungry mobster, he has thought of nothing but vengeance. For twelve years he has immersed himself in the world of pleasure slaves searching for the one man he holds ultimately responsible. Finally, the architect of his suffering has emerged with a new identity, but not a new nature. If Caleb is to get close enough to strike, he must become the very thing he abhors and kidnap a beautiful girl to train her to be all that he once was. Eighteen-year-old Olivia Ruiz has just woken up in a strange place. Blindfolded and bound, there is only a calm male voice to welcome her. His name is Caleb, though he demands to be called Master. Olivia is young, beautiful, naïve and willful to a fault. She has a dark sensuality that cannot be hidden or denied, though she tries to accomplish both. Although she is frightened by the strong, sadistic, and arrogant man who holds her prisoner, what keeps Olivia awake in the dark is her unwelcome attraction to him. WARNING: This book contains very disturbing situations, dubious consent, strong language, and graphic violence.

Nanee's Review
This writer sure knows how to capture her audience and not let go. This story takes you on a trip through human
Trafficking and the scars it leaves behind. Its a dark story about abuse and violence but having said that its a amazing story of strength, determination, love and loss. It shows you how a person so broken, so messed up can have feelings and possibly love another person. The writer created two amazing characters that you can't help but feel for, want the best for them ( even though one is evil ...or is he?) I fell in love with Caleb; he is dark and tough but is sexy and caring all in one. It's hard to describe all my feelings through out this book but I'm in awe of the creativity it took to write this story , all I can say its not so different from everything out there....it's an amazing read..can't wait for book two to see how Livie and Caleb fair and is this the end of them?
