Kailin “Kai” Odel is an Alpha Panther shapeshifter and Wraith Hunter. During a battle with a Wraith, Kailin stumbles on a mysterious murder of another Walker. The reader is then introduced to such entities as “the paranormal information network”, “the non-Human community”, “Death-talker” and “the New Army of Wrythiin." . The writing and pacing of the story are good though at times riddled with cliches. The characters are interesting and sympathetic. Things start getting really interesting, exciting and action packed by chapter 14. Some of the magical aspects of the story, I found a little too much to swallow. There was just too much going on that the story became very scattered. But all in all an enjoyable read. 4 stars.

MY REVIEWS:
Lost Soul (DarkWorld #2)by T.G. Ayer |
In this second book of the series, Kai is seriously injured and sick
from Wraith poison. Logan uses his fire magic to ease her pain but it
can't cure her. Kai goes off to save her sister Greer. This book is
full of action and adventure. It is fast paced and well written.
Kailin is the Niamh, a hunter, foretold to help defeat the army of
Wrythiin. Plus, Kai has to figure out how to rescue her mother and
her friend Anjelo. There was just so much going on in this book and
it was really exciting. I look forward to the next book. 4 stars.
Last Chance (DarkWorld #3)
by T.G. Ayer
I thought this was a trilogy and this was the last book but I was
wrong. Books 4, 5 and 6 are set to be released in 2015. Kailin is off
to rescue her mother and her friend Anjelo after the death of her
sister. This book is full of action and Wraith battles. There is so
much going on in this series: demons, death talkers and shape
shifters like lynx and panthers. The writing is good and this is an
extremely fast paced story. It is quite the roller coaster ride. 4
stars.
The 3rd installment in the DarkWorld: SkinWalker series.
With the loss of her sister still weighing down both her conscience and her heart, Kailin Odel must take on the next part of her mission - find her mother and Anjelo and bring them back from Wrythiin.
Kailin uses her mother's portal key and enters the Wraith world intent on saving the ones she loves, but from the moment she arrives her mission is fraught with peril.
Arriving in Wrythiin, Kai steps right into the middle of a Wraith rebellion. And only to find that though Anjelo is safe, her mother is held captive by a subversive faction of Wraiths once led by the Wraithlord that Kai had killed.
From Wraiths to Shapeshifters, rebel causes to fraying family ties, to inexplicable new powers, Kai must fight her darkest demons while entering the blackest pits of Wrythiin to save her mother.
Excerpt 1
“When I get back,
I’m going to make sure you know exactly how you make me feel.”
“And how exactly
do I make you feel?” I whispered, our mouths inches from each
other.
“Oh, you’ll have
to wait until I return. But if you want an idea, its something along
the lines that even when you’re weak and broken, you still manage
to get my blood burning.”
“Mmm. Is that a
good thing?”
“Definitely a good
thing.”
“I should get weak
and broken more often, then.”
He grabbed my ass
and squeezed, simultaneously pressing me against his body, his
arousal firm against my hip. “Don’t you get any ideas. I quite
like my women in one piece, thank you.”
More clattering from
the kitchen made me grin. Logan released my butt and kissed me firmly
on the neck before hurrying to the door.
His woman indeed.

Excerpt 2
"Saving from
need,” he whispered, his voice hoarse. “You see, need is
all-consuming, and she has to be saved or else it will mean the death
of her." The other strap of my tee slid off my shoulder, the
fabric skimming sensitive skin, heightening the ripples of desire
that engulfed me.

Excerpt 3
The strap of my
racer back tee slipped off my shoulder, and he kissed my collarbone,
sinking his teeth into the sensitive skin, sending shivers of desire
along my body, all the way to the pit of my stomach.
I cleared my throat
and tilted my head down to look at him. "Just what is it you
think you are doing?" Although I tried to be cool, even bossy,
my voice came out husky and filled with desire.
"What does it
look like?" he asked as he raised his head to look at me, his
black eyes filled with fire. My collarbone felt bereft of his warmth,
and the look in his eyes destroyed any facade of resistance I might
have raised.
"What it looks
like is breaking and entering," I said, my breath coming in
short, sharp bursts.

Excerpt 4
“You nervous?” I
asked Lily.
She snorted. “I am
a dimension-jumping virgin, you know.”
I laughed softly as
I slid my hand into my jacket pocket and withdrew the portal key. It
gleamed in the light, the solid weight giving me a strange comfort. A
ripple of unease volleyed through me as I recalled the blood promise
the high priestess had drawn from me. Sometime soon, that would come
back to bite me in the ass. But right now, I refused to think about
it.
Now I concentrated
on Wrythiin.

Excerpt 5
Lily hit the ground
with a thud and a small, “Oomph.”
I sat up and rubbed
the bump at the back of my head. The silence was thick, as solid as
the darkness around us. I sensed Lily shift beside me. "You
okay?" I whispered.
After a moment
silence, as if Lily were giving the question serious thought, she
whispered, "Yeah. Wow. That was some ride. Now I know what
babies feel like, being shoved through a tiny hole just to see life."
I snorted. Trust
Lily to do something as ridiculous as compare traveling through
dimensions to the act of birth.

I have been a writer from the time I was old enough to recognize that reading was a doorway into my imagination. Poetry was my first foray into the art of the written word. Books were my best friends, my escape, my haven. I am essentially a recluse but this part of my personality is impossible to practice given I have two teenage daughters, who are actually my friends, my tea-makers, my confidantes... I am blessed with a husband who has left me for golf. It's a fair trade as I have left him for writing. We are both passionate supporters of each others loves - it works wonderfully...
My heart is currently broken in two. One half resides in South Africa where my old roots still remain, and my heart still longs for the endless beaches and the smell of moist soil after a summer downpour. My love for Ma Afrika will never fade. The other half of me has been transplanted to the Land of the Long White Cloud. The land of the Taniwha, beautiful Maraes, and volcanoes. The land of green, pure beauty that truly inspires. And because I am so torn between these two lands - I shall forever remain cross-eyed.
