Resolutions (Honor Guard Series) by Teri Riggs Spotlight ~Kami

Resolutions (Honor Guard Series)

DEA agent Eve Taylor has had her fill of alpha males. When Resolutions’ operative and former lover, Dillon “Mac” McKenna, threatened her hard-earned independence, she ran. On a mission to gather evidence against a Colombian drug-lord, Eve discovers the drug-lord is helping terrorists plan an attack on American soil. Before she can escape with the vital information, she’s captured and comes face to face with her mortality…

As a teen, Mac watched his family fall apart after his mother died doing dangerous U.N. work. The possibility of losing Eve to a mission ignited an overwhelming need to protect her. When he forced her to choose him or her job, she walked away. Two years later, it seems all his nightmares have come true and he’s tasked with rescuing her from a Colombian prison. Mac has never stopped loving Eve, but does he dare risk his heart when he’s so terrified of losing…

On the run, Mac and Eve must learn to trust each other again in order to stay alive.
Beefy hands wrenched Eve awake from a fevered sleep, pulled her from the cell, and shoved her into a musty-smelling hallway. I’m being moved? A guard pushed her with one hand, keeping a tight grip on an AK-47 rifle with his other.
Her shoulder throbbed in perfect cadence with the pains shooting through her broken wrist, and she had one badass headache from being punched in the face a few too many times. Using her good hand, she walked fingers across one cheek, then the other. The right side was totally numb. Her eye had swollen shut, and she couldn’t see a damn thing out of it. She ran her tongue across her teeth and tasted the tart, copper flavor of blood. Three teeth loose. Well, at least they’re still in place.
In spite of the relentless pain, she stayed determined to survive whatever Mendoza dished out. She wasn’t a quitter. No, sir. Duncan Falls, Iowa didn’t grow quitters. Eve ignored the constant ache in her ribs, courtesy of a guard’s overzealous kick, and took in a deep breath. She willed herself to stay alert, to keep pushing. Escape. Third times the charm.
Eve slapped the guard’s dirty hand. “Hey, Pedro, stop being so damned pushy. Where we going anyway? We got a hot date I’ve forgotten about?”
He looked puzzled then shoved her again.
“Don’t understand English, do you, Diego? Bet you understand this.” Eve drove her elbow into the guard’s face. Thick rubbery cartilage gave, and she whooped triumphantly.
Blood squirted from his nose and he screamed.
Eve stepped back. “Yep, I’m pretty sure you understand that.”
Unable to grab the guard’s assault rifle, she clutched her injured shoulder, and took off in a slow jog, no longer able to push any harder.
Her escape was short lived.

About this author

Teri Riggs was destined to be a writer. As a small girl she didn’t read bedtime stories, she made up her own. Who needed Little Red Riding Hood or The Three Little Pigs when there were so many great tales bouncing around in her head? When she grew up and became a mother to three little girls, she continued the tradition of making up bedtime stories. On the occasions she chose to tell conventional fairytales, Teri usually gave them a bit of tweaking here and there or added a new ending. Her girls loved it.
After her daughters had the nerve to actually grow up and leave home, Teri discovered she had a passion for writing and jumped right in. It came as no surprise she chose to write mysteries and happily-ever-after’s since that’s the genres she loves to read.
Teri lives in Marietta, Georgia with her husband, one of her daughters and two dogs that seem to think they rule the world. And some days Teri thinks maybe they do.

Teri still frequently tells herself stories as she falls asleep. The only difference now is she wakes up the next morning and turns her bedtime stories into books.

Ground Zero: A Zombie Apocalypse Nicholas Ryan Review ~Kami

Ground Zero: A Zombie Apocalypse

Nicholas Ryan

This is a very clever premise. A terrorist plot against the United States by using zombies as their weapon. Very unique and clever. The story is interesting, gory, scary and exciting. The pacing and writing is really good. This story has what I like best in a zombie story: a lot of zombie killing action. I like zombie stories where the people are running from zombies and trying to stay alive and get to a safe place. I don't like the type of zombie books as much, where the survivors are fighting and arguing amongst themselves. Where you have to worry more about the living than the dead. This was a good zombie story. I liked it. 4 stars.

Freak of Nature (IFICS #1) by Julia Crane Review ~Kami

Freak of Nature (IFICS #1)

Kaitlyn donated her body to science and was turned into a cyborg. The scientists are sure that all of her personality and humanity is gone but that isn't entirely true. Kaitlyn still dreams. This is a really good story. The writing is good, the pacing is good, the characters are interesting and sympathetic. The secondary characters are really interesting too. Quess is the granddaughter of the scientist heading the Kaitlyn project and Kaitlyn's only friend. Lucas is on the team of scientists. I was really enjoying it. This book reminded me of Mila 2.0 (MILA 2.0 #1) by Debra Driza and Cinder (Lunar Chronicles #1) by Marissa Meyer, two books that I really like. This is a really good robot love story. I really enjoyed it. 4 stars.

Unforgivable (Part One) by James Fuller and Unforgivable II by James Fuller, Kai Wilson, Donna B. Review ~Kami
Unforgivable (Part One)

This is an amazingly written story. The prose is so good. Jamus tried to protect his twelve-year-old daughter and in retaliation horrible acts are done to him an his family. This is his story of revenge. This story is violent and crazy and I loved it so much. 4 stars

This is Sofia's story of revenge. It has been three months since her father was killed after the mercenaries discovered them, though they had been in hiding for years. Sofia has blackouts when she kills people and she is plagued by nightmares. I was liking this book slightly better than the first one. I like Sofia. 5 stars.

His Boss Lady by Emily Walker Review ~Kami

His Boss Lady

Emma is a serious work horse on the fast track to success. Tyler is her new intern. When they first meet, there are immediate sparks and tension. Tyler is chauvinistic and arrogant, so I immediately disliked him. I also didn't like the way that he sabotages, undercuts and questions her work. I couldn't see that happening in a real workplace. There is a lot of inappropriate conversation going on in this office, I would think someone would be getting fired or sued for sexual harassment. This story reads to me like a movie. I could totally imagine this quirky rom com on the big screen. The funniest line is: “You there, come over here and get whipped by my wife.” That made me laugh out loud. 4 stars.

HEDGING HIS BET: Cassandra Carr
Marcus Mitchell never thought he’d find the love of his life with champagne dripping from her shirt rather than walking the runway at Fashion Week like the models he usually preferred, but you can’t always plan these things. Annalise Alonso isn’t going to make it easy for him, though—he’s going to have to work for her love. Now, Marcus is taking a shot and hedging his bet on love.

Reflection by Elene Sallinger spotlight ~Kami

Hailing from Washington, DC, Elene Sallinger first caught the writing bug in 2004 after writing and illustrating several stories for her then four-year-old daughter. Her writing career has encompassed two award-winning children's stories, a stint as a consumer-education advocate, as well as writing her debut novel, Awakening - a novel of erotic fiction that won the New Writing Competition at the Festival of Romance 2011.

She is a lover of all things lingual, a warrior of words, and a vixen of vocabulary. Her goal is to titillate, provoke, empower and move you with her work which ranges from the erotic to the dramatic and everything in between.

Bridget Ross is a woman with a shameful secret. Despite a life full of success and close friends she denies herself her true desires in penance for the crimes she can't take back.

Connor Reynolds is a man without a purpose. His own tragic past prevents him from putting down roots and pursuing his dreams.

Their paths collide forcing them to face the ultimate question … is their love worth fighting for?
