Review #3..The Protectors: Damon By Teresa Gableman

The Protectors: Damon::
 Damon DeMasters is a vampire warrior who has taken an oath to protect his own kind as well as humans. As a social worker, Nicole Callahan fights for the right of every child placed in her care. Damon has been ordered to train Nicole and her colleagues against the dangers they now face. Even as sparks fly, Nicole and Damon depend on each other to protect the children of both races.

Teresa Gabelman::
 I’m a working mother of a 17-year-old, wife to my high school sweetie and peacemaker to my two mischievous mutts. I am also a huge fan of mixed martial arts, a third degree black belt in Taekwondo and watch way too much reality TV. Books that are fast reads filled with romance, humor, butt kicking men and women who can keep up with them are my favorite. I love to write and always have a story banging around in my head demanding to be told. I hope that I can do for you what authors have done for me which is take you from your reality if only for an hour or two.

My Review::
4.5 Stars!

So Teresa, being the awesome lady that she is, sent me this book to review and I just can not thank her enough!! I love it so much!
I was hooked in the second I read the first word, and not many books can do that for me. From the beginning to the end there is something that will capture you deeper and deeper whether its from Teresa non-stopping jokes or all the action something, somewhere will grab your attention and hold it till the very last word. And if you love a good Vampire book you need to, need to read this!!
Now you made be asking yourself 'if she loves it this much why the 4.5 stars?'  Well the only thing, and I repeat the only thing, I did not like about Damon was that how fast the settings change. One second everyone's in a warehouse and the next their in a car. It just got confusing for me but after a while I got used to it and read the rest of the book without a problem.
I will defiantly be reading Jared, the next installment to the Protector Series.

And thanks again Teresa Gabelman! I <3 you and your awesome book, I just can't get enough of it!

Hellooooo

What's up peeps? It's that crazy book lady again! I am currently in Minnesota. Well not currently, but when this blog goes live I will be traveling to Minnesota. Scratch that. I am on vacation. Why am I going to the tropical wonderfulness that is MN. Well I am after all a midwestern girl. Iowa. One of my best friends and her husband (who is also my friend) live in St. Louis Park. It's a suburb of Minnieapolis.
I guess I should actually tell you all about myself. My name is Lori Parker. I'm a 28 year old single mother. Yes, I realize my friend Heaven and I were born 13 years apart. That's the cool thing about books. They bring everyone together. Anyway. I don't really have any new updates reading wise. I actually do but I can't talk about them.  Have you entered to win Reign of Blood by Alexia Purdy yet.
Well you can do so HERE!
Also, Check out my review of Annie Walls Taking on the Dead...it was amazing!!!!

Review #2 Contagious By Emily Goodwin

"I wasn’t afraid of death. If I died, it would be over. My worst fear wasn’t of dying, it was of living. Living, while everyone around me had their flesh savagely torn from their bodies to be shoved into the festering and ever-hungry mouths of zombies. It terrified me, right down to my very core, to be alive while the rest of the world was dead."

In the midst of the Second Great Depression, twenty-five year old Orissa Penwell doesn't think things can get any worse. She couldn't be more wrong. A virus breaks out across the country, leaving the infected crazed, aggressive and very hungry.

Orissa will do anything-no matter if it's right or wrong- to save the ones she loves. But when she discovers that most of the world is infected or dead, she must decided if those lives are worth saving at all.

Emily Goodwin::
 Emily Goodwin resides in Indiana, where she lives with her husband, many four legged children and their much loved German Shepherd named Vader. Accused of being a day dreamer, Emily began writing at an early age, making use of her active imagination. She has
a degree in psychology, is currently working on her second degree in nursing, likes anything paranormal, 80's rock, going on crazy adventures with her friends and is an animal rights activist.

My Review::
5 stars :)

 I loved this book! This was the first indie book that I had ever read and it made me love them!
 I have to admit when I first started to read Contagious I wasn't sure if I was gonna be able to finish it. Orissa just didn't seem like a relate-able character when the whole ZA started. But when I start a book I cant stop reading it and I'm sure glad that I didn't. Orissa grew on me!
Once I started to get more into how she thought and why she did certain things it made her seem more like a real person than at the beginning of the book. All the characters I just absolutely love them to pieces, Dr. Cara being my favorite of them all! xD And also the fact that everything seemed to pull me further into the book.
There were very few typos, that didn't at all effect my reading. The only thing that I didn't like about this book was the cliffhanger!! I spent a good month of my life wondering if Hayden was alive or dead. I would walk around my house talking to myself trying to figure out what would happen. My mom and grandma were always asking me what the heckers I was talking about.
I will/have recommended this book to others and they love it just as much as I do! I hope you all get a chance to read this awesome book!

       To Emily Goodwin -- Thank you for writing this book! It helped my mind a lot when coming up with ideas to create zombies for my book. :)

About me :)

Today I thought that I'd tell you all about myself (can't believe that I haven't yet!).

Well to start out my name is Heaven Lyanne Flores :) I'm fifteen years old and I am a junior in high school. I am the daughter of a single mom (<3) and have a little brother and sister. I love to read (mostly Indie books) and write more than my mother would like. So far I've finished two book's  and started about six, none of which have been published. xD I am currently in soccer and a part of a club called T.A.E.L. (Teens Against Endangered Lives). I like to help out author's anyway I can, which is why I started this blog. So if your an author and want me to help promote your book or whatever don't be afraid to ask. Ten out of ten times I'll do it. xD

Yo Ho a bloggers life for me (part 1)!

Hi guys and gals. It's that crazy book lady from Contagious Reads. I thought I would start of my stay here with an introduction of myself. My name is Lori. I loooovvveee to read books. I mean really. I read almost exclusively indie authors. I'm going to try to do a regular guest post every Friday on Indie Authors, Books and More. This week I am going to talk about what I have been reading recently.

I went on a Rhiannon Frater binge. It all started with THE LIVING DEAD BOY AND THE ZOMBIE HUNTERS! There's me in all my Justin Beiber hair'd glory holding the paperback copy I bought for my nephew! Needless to say this book is EPIC. I love it. It is meant for younger readers. I'm not talking 16 year olds. I'm talking 8 yr olds +! Did that lessen my enjoyment of this book? Afterall, I am a 20 something year old mother. NO!

Then I read THE TALE OF THE VAMPIRE BRIDE and THE VENGEANCE OF THE VAMPIRE BRIDE. Both by, you guessed it, Rhiannon Frater.

These books were absolutely breathtaking. I cannot even begin to describe them. If you like bloody, gory, dark and beautiful vampire books then pick these up. I should warn you...these are ADULT books. So parents I suggest you take a look at them before deciding they are right for your teens.

I also did an interview with the wonderful Alexia Purdy. Who wrote my favorite zompire book. REIGN OF BLOOD.

Yeah...you see that book I am holding. I'm giving it away on my blog Contagious Reads.  Just look for the Indie Author Crush post/interview with Alexia Purdy.

I have a couple of cool beta reading projects coming up that I will share with you all when I am done with them. I am super excited to announce that I will be beta reading for Crushing Hearts and Black Butterfly Publishing. This is volunteer only and eagerly await anything that they send my way.

1st Review:: Of Darkness & Light by Lily Crussell

                   When Elora starts being followed everywhere she goes, she assumes it's paranoia, after all, if you can't see it, it can't be real...can it? Things grow increasingly weird in Elora's world; the sound of wings, footsteps and physical attacks with no one in sight. Could she be losing her mind?
When an attractive stranger saves her from her assailant, she can't help but think he might be in on it.

Who can she trust when she doesn't even feel able to trust herself.
 Lily Crussell::
 Lily Crussell is a (currently) unpublished author of young adult paranormal romance and fantasy novels. Hailing from Buckinghamshire in England, she lives in a market town. When she isn't writing, she works full time in retail, something she is desperate to give up.Writing since her early teens, Lily doesn't see writing as a career choice, more an obsession that won't let her rest until her muses are sated. She has been known to lock herself in toilet cubicles at work, scribbling madly on scraps of paper to ensure ideas aren't lost whilst serving customers. Lily previously considered careers in Anthropology and Teaching, but found neither suited her, especially as they would mean less time to devote to write.
Not only a novelist, Lily spends her time writing Haiku and Sonnets, none of which she's had the bravery to submit anywhere as of yet.
When not writing, Lily usually has her nose in a book on subjects ranging from Geiko to Veganism, a subject she is devoted to entirely. She has a terrible sense of humor, enjoying tacky comedies, bad horrors and awful tv. She enjoys cute fluffy animals and is hoping to train guide dog puppies if she ever gets out of retail.
Her dream is to write all day, living in a dream world of her characters and only coming out of it to train the guide dog puppies and cook vegan masterpieces (the last part is unlikely though!). As a Vegan, she is active in animal welfare issues and believes all creatures deserve respect, regardless of whether they have two legs, four, wings or gills.
My Review::
4 1/2 stars!
Okay, so the first thing you should know is that I was hooked to this book! After the first couple of chapters I didn't want to put it down and finished it in a matter of days (as my sister started to read it while I was)! I love how I felt as if I was a part of the book, like I wasn't just reading it but apart of it. Also the main character Elora was so relate able! At least to me she was. And when I can relate to a character in a story it makes me never want to put it down!
There were some grammatical errors (as I'm sure are also in this review xD). And some sentences didn't seem to make sense to me, ruining the flow of things but it happened such a few amount of times that I didn't feel right taking off a whole star.
My sister, Jazzmin, and I loved the way Lily described everything! Especially the wings. And the fact that even when Elora was doing the most boring-est things a teenager could do it still seemed exciting!
Jazzmin and I get the awesome chance to be beta reader's for Lily and just can not wait to get started! I highly recommend this book and hope that y'all get as hooked as we did. :)
