THE LAST ONE by Tawdra Kandle Release Day Blitz ~Kami

TLOReleaseDayBanner

The anticipated spin-off series of THE POSSE is finally here!

Meghan Hawthorne is restless. The last year has been a roller coaster: her widowed mother just married a long-time family friend. Her younger brother unexpectedly became a father and a husband. Everyone's life is changing. . .except for hers. As she begins her final summer of college, Meghan's looking for excitement and maybe a little romance. Nothing serious; this girl just wants to have fun.

But the only man for Meghan turns out to be the last one she expects.

Sam Reynolds doesn't need excitement, and he doesn't want romance. Fun is out of the question. He's been the steady, responsible one since his parents were killed, and serious is his way of life.

When Sam rescues Meghan alongside a dark Georgia backroad, she falls hard for his deep brown eyes and slow drawl. But making him see her as more than just a party girl won't be easy. Sam's tempted by the fiery young artist, even as he realizes that giving into his feelings will mean radical change. . .maybe more than he can handle.

Nobody ever said love was simple.

"As an almost strictly paranormal romance reader, it takes a certain type of author to convince me to dive into straight romance. Tawdra Kandle is one of the few authors I will make an exception for. Her writing style is so easy and relaxing that I have to really keep an eye on the time or I’ll stay up all night to finish one of her books." Carrie Williams, Goodreads Reviewer "Wow. Talk about romance with an edge. From the beginning the characters were so real that I was completely invested in them. The sexual tension woven into the story added so much value to the relationships. I will be reading this book many times just so I can spend more time with Meghan and Sam." Cheryl Garrett, Goodreads Reviewer "I'm in love with this book!!" Leah Fennick, Goodreads Reviewer

Raven by Stacey Rourke review~ Kami

Title: Raven
Author: Stacey Rourke
Genre: NA Paranormal Thriller
Hosted by: Lady Amber's Tours

MY REVIEW : This book starts out terrifying with a witch feeding a nasty, macabre concoction to a baby. I was immediately drawn into this grotesque tale of the baby Edgar.  The story then moves to Ireland, Noah and Rip van Winkle as they continue their investigation of the Headless Horseman and his connection to Ireland. I really like the Edgar half of this book a lot, so much so that I was trying to hurry through Ireland's  adventures so that I could get to the Edgar chapters. I am a fan of Edgar Allan Poe and creepy Gothic horror. This was a definite good, creepy re-imagination in the style of a Gothic horror ghost story. I enjoyed it immensely. That reveal at the end is definitely spectacular. 4 stars.

Blurb:

An infamous love, destined nevermore,
For death could not claim, the enchanting Lenore.

Cursed by the malevolent spirit of the Headless Horseman, Ireland Crane ventures to Manhattan in search of a way to break her soul crushing bond. Instead, she discovers the lines between fact and fiction are blurring once more. Croaking ravens. Telltale hearts. Could the works of Poe be coming to pass with handsome Wall Street Midas Ridley Peolte as their unwilling target?

She walks the Earth, a plague on mankind,
searching for he, her rotted heart doth pine.

Together, the two unknowingly release a dark force death itself could not tame. Surrounded by the unrelenting violence and mayhem they’ve unleashed, Ireland feels her control over the Horseman slipping. Before the beast within consumes her, she and her crew must follow the clues of the dead to right a centuries’ old wrong. Will it be enough to sate the Horseman’s appetite?

Hell hath no fury like a ghoul scorned.

Excerpt:

Lifting her skirt enough to allow herself movement, Ireland ventured further down the line to those patiently awaiting her attention. Her breath caught, the next two faces turning to her like flower petals meeting the rays of the sun. Rip Van Winkle, not the decrepit shell of himself she knew but the man he had once been, knelt before her. Strong, strapping, and staring up at her with a level of trust and admiration that made a flush of guilt stain her cheeks. Forcing her troubled gaze to travel farther still, she found her heart seized in desire’s iron fist.
His name escaped her parted lips in a breathless sigh, “Noah.”
A crooked smile meant just for her curled the corners of his lips. “You know what we want and why we’re here …” his words trailed off as he tipped his head, offering her his throat.
Beside him, Rip matched the gesture.
Ireland stumbled, her heel tangling in the hem of her skirt. “No! I-I could never hurt you! You know that! You know me!”
Catching her hand, Noah reeled her body back to him. One strong arm hooked around the rise of her hips and pinned her to him. “Your gift is beautiful. Don’t ever doubt that.” Turning the inside of her arm skyward, his mouth teased the tender flesh of her wrist. The heat of his breath and delicate caress of each dotted kiss sent waves of desire coursing through her. Hazel eyes, warmed to molten gold by palpable desire, locked with her own and refused to falter. “Please, don’t deny me.”
The adoration in his gaze, and the seduction of his touch made Ireland feel like the most beautiful being on the planet … until she caught sight of Rip out of the corner of her eye. He was wearing that matching mask of longing. It wasn’t her they wanted—it never had been—but a taste of what she could do. To be near death, and delve into the darkness. Their own twisted yearning to thumb their nose at mortality led them to follow her.
Clamping her eyes on the wash of tears that threatened, Ireland ignored the wailing of her heart … and laid a palm to each of their cheeks. One lone tear snuck between her lashes at the cascade of tingles seeping up her arms.
“You can’t blame them for not understanding,” a familiar voice drawled behind her.
She spun as he neared, leaving Rip and Noah wheezing for breath—or, more likely, completion of her task.
Techno-colored flowers bloomed in a colorless world each time the sole of Ridley’s shoes met the earth. The crisp cut of his white, tailored suit was accented by a burst of color from the button-down shirt beneath that changed in hue to match the species of flowers that sprung to life. Hydrangeas blue. Orchid purple. Lily fuchsia. Rose coral. As he neared, Ireland noticed his eyes morphed to match as well. The result hypnotic.
His haggard and troubled façade was a thing of the past. The man before her exuded confidence and a zest for life from every pore. The draw of which was so magnetic Ireland had to fight to keep her feet planted while her body insisted she close the distance between them.
“To them this is a thrill, a game of chicken against the Reaper himself.” Ridley paused beside her, his shoulder skimming hers. Even then he didn’t grace her with a glance, his attention fixed on Rip and Noah. Tipping his head toward her, the warmth of his breath teased over her breast bone. “For us, it’s destiny.”
The moment he stepped away from her, the chill of solitude lashed at Ireland’s soul and cut deep. Bending eye-level with her withering subjects, Ridley pursed his rose petal lips to blow a soft, healing breath over both of them. Wan complexions of the dying were ripened to plump apricot. Both men blinked away their disappointment before dipping in a low bow—foreheads to the ground in a show of respect.
“No need for that, boys.” Ridley smoothed the front of his suit coat, a self-depreciating chuckle playing over his lips.
Neither humbled servant budged.
“You’re like me?” Pacing in a slow circle around him, Ireland’s eye narrowed.
He matched her steps, leading them in an intimate waltz normally reserved for predators—or lovers.
“Like you?” He tsked. “Oh no, my darling flower. There is no other like you. Our only similarity is being pawns in a game that began centuries before either of our fathers got an amorous gleam in their eyes.”
Ireland’s gaze lingered over the soft curve of his mouth, wondering if his lips could possibly taste as delectable as they looked. “How do we play?”
Curling one finger into a ruffled tuft of her skirt, Ridley pulled her to him. Bowing his head, he brushed his cheek over the delicate curve of her collarbone. “The game is already in motion,” he murmured. “The rule sheet not meant for our eyes. All we can do now is stay alive.”
Ireland weaved her fingers into his hair, yanking his head back with a passion driven force that bordered on violent. “I’ve taken lives. I’m a monster,” she snarled against his lips, tormenting them both with the agonizing veil of energy that denied their touch.
His hand snaked up her arm to find her fingers and loosen her grasp. Palm to palm. Fingers entwined with fingers. “Does granting it make me any better?”
Ridley didn’t give her time to answer. With one hand pressed to the small of her back he crushed her to him.  Their lips met with a desperate urgency that caused Heaven and Earth to quake in nervous anticipation of what was coming …

It's Always Been You by Victoria Paige review ~ Kami

It's Always Been You (Always, #1)It's Always Been You by Victoria Paige
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Travis has tried to grieve for the last three years for his dead wife Sarah but he just can't let her go. Caitlin has amnesia and has been on the run for three years. Caitlin is Sarah but she doesn't remember Travis. The Russian mob is after Caitlin and Travis is her only hope to stay alive. This is an action filled romance. It is fast-paced and well written. I thought it was really exciting and an enjoyable read. Caitlin is kind of a Jason Bourne kind of character which is interesting. This book is really erotic and sexy but sweet and romantic too. 4 stars.

Sanctum (The After Light Saga #2) by Cameo Renae review ~ Kami

Title: Sanctum (The After Light Saga #2)
Author: Cameo Renae
Genre: YA Post-Apocalyptic/Dystopian
Publisher: CHBB
Cover Design: Regina Wamba at Mae I Design Photography

MY REVIEW : This second book starts where the first left off. Abi is being held captive in the bunker for investigating some mysterious happenings going on with those in charge and the mutants, known as Arvies. Add some cruel soldiers and Abi's safety is threatened by not mutants but fellow survivors. This is a very compelling story. Abi is a very sympathetic character. She is willful, brave and isn't afraid to speak up against the status quo. The writing is really good. The story is intriguing with a lot of exciting, and sometimes scary,  action. The romance heats up a lot between Abi and Finn. The pacing is spot on. As I got farther into the story, I just knew something bad was going to happen, which added a lot of nervous tension for me, the reader. I was on pins and needles, chewing on my nails. A good follow up to the first book and continuation of the series. I actually like this book better than the first one. 5 stars.

Blurb:
The Arvy threat worsens each day. They continue to destroy the hive’s vital fuel resources, leaving us with one option— evacuate to the largest government bunker, located in South Dakota. The injured hive members are moved as first priority, but a disastrous event occurs on the way to our drop-off zone. We find ourselves in a ghost town, surrounded by spiteful, revenge filled Arvies. Chaos ensues and our death toll rises. Just when we think the end has come, unsuspected help arrives. We are rescued and brought to an underground bunker. They call it Sanctum. With no way of reaching outside help, we must depend on each other to reach our pick-up zone, thirty miles away. If we don’t make it in time, we will be left for dead. Time is ticking. My name is Abigail Park. I am a survivor.

Lila's Wolf by Sofia Grey review ~ Kami

Lila's Wolf (Out of Time #1)Lila's Wolf by Sofia Grey
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The year is 2552 and Lila is a historian hunting Jared who is living in 413 AD. Jared had abandoned Lila to the Romans during their last time jump and she barely escaped with her life. The only thing that got Lila through her subsequent surgeries and recovery was imagining her revenge on Jared. It is fast-paced and interesting. The book is told in dual POV. Lila's is first person and Jared's is third person. It was interesting to read from both characters POV. They're both sympathetic characters. This book is full of excitement, adventure, romance and danger. It is pretty bad when the future is so bleak that the Dark Ages seems like the better option. I really loved this book a lot. It is a quick read and it held my interest from the beginning. This book has it all, including a very sexy love scene. 5 stars.

Guest Post | Orissa Penwell's top 5 skills

Orissa Penwell is the main character in my Contagium Series. I knew from the start that I wanted a strong character who had the experience and knowledge to allow her to realistically survive in a horrible situation, like the zombie apocalypse. Throughout her life, Orissa received survival training from her grandfather. She’s far from perfect, but her past helps keep her, as well as her rag-tag team of friends, alive. Well…some of them stay alive, that is. This is the ZA after all.   Orissa has a wide variety of skills that are vital to her survival. Most are learned from intense survival lessons from Grandpa, who had some rather unorthodox methods of training his only grand daughter…like dropping her off in the middle of nowhere so she could learn to fend for herself. It’s hard to narrow down her skill set, but these are the five that stick out as the most important to me.   1.) Firepower. Orissa knows how to start fires. Seems simple, right? It’s not as easy as it seems, and staying warm and dry can be vital to living or dying. Fires cook food, boil away bacteria in water, and can ward off bugs and wild animals, but unfortunately, zombies are attracted to the bright lights. 2.) Weapons and combat. From her favored compound bow to her trusty M9, Orissa is comfortable handling almost any weapon. And she has deadly good aim, which she will tell you is half skill, half practice. And in her case, she’s had years of practice. She’s no stranger to hand to hand combat either, and that comes from years of martial arts training. 3.) Resourceful. This might not be something you can easily be taught, but it is important when getting through tough situations. Orissa is able to think on her feet and find solutions and alternatives when it comes to solving problems and making things work. 4.) Wilderness. Part of Orissa’s vigorous training was learning how to live off the land. She knows (from experience) that you can’t drink from any natural water source without risking getting sick, what plants are edible or not, how to track people and animals, how to climb trees to stay out of sight and reach, and how to move quietly. She was taught how to hunt (including skinning and gutting her kill) at a very young age, and is able to provide food for her friends. 5.) Accepting help. Now, this isn’t something Orissa was willing to do right away. She’s not the kind of person to admit she needs help, but as time goes on, she realizes that she can’t get through this alone. By teaming up with others, Orissa not only ups her chances of survival, but she makes new friends and maybe even finds someone to love admits the death and dying.

Priya in Heels by Ayesha Patel review and giveaway ~Kami

Debut author, Ayesha Patel, weaves a spicy, sexy, multicultural NA romance with PRIYA IN HEELS, an Embrace by Entangled Publishing novel.

Dubbed a romance that's "sweet and sexy with a dash of spice" by USA Today Bestselling Author Nicola Marsh, this delightful multicultural contemporary romance centers on a perfect daughter who falls in love with an imperfect man. Readers will cheer for Pree as her relationship impacts her parental relations, her friends, and her career as doctor.

Want to get to know Ayesha better? Check out this exclusive interview!
MY REVIEW:
Twenty-four-year-old Priya is a proper Indian woman, working as a doctor and whose parents arrange her marriage to a dentist. Except that she meets a hot musician, who happens to live two doors down in her apartment building and who she met in the ER when he hurt his ankle. Tyler is thrilled that the neighbor he has his eyes on turns out to be his ER doctor. But Priya doesn't want anything to do with the hot musician next door. I thought this book was cleverly written and fast paced. I liked Priya a lot. She is very cranky and snappish towards Tyler but he likes and pursues her anyway. This is a culture that I don't know a whole lot about outside of Bollywood and Slumdog Millionaire. An arranged marriage is a foreign concept to me. Priya wants to make her parents happy even if it means she would be unhappy.  I loved that Priya is so laid back and normal. She talks about peeing and farting. Which made me laugh out loud. I also loved that she is nerdy. My favorite line: “I have three goals in life: work in private practice, bring plaid back, and dominate San Diego Comic-Con.” I enjoyed this book a lot. And where can I get a hot, astrophysicist, musician? I thought this was a very sweet romance. I am interested in reading more books by this author. 5 stars.

Praise for PRIYA IN HEELS:
"Priya in Heels is an exquisite mix of culture, romance, and humor all brought together by two characters you can't help but love from the get-go. It's a must read!" —NYT Bestselling Author Anna Banks

"Chemistry jumps off the pages in this sexy-fun tale of family, “firsts," and doing anything for true love. I swooned over Ty right along with Pree!" —USA Today Bestselling Author Ophelia London

Synopsis:
Priyanka Patel is the epitome of an obedient daughter. She’s finishing up her medical residency at one of Houston’s busiest emergency departments, and has agreed—albeit reluctantly—to marry the man her family has chosen for her. The only thing that can derail the “perfect” life laid out before her is the sexy musician down the hall who wants into her life…and into her bed.
Tyler O’Connor has been infatuated with Priya since she treated his sprained ankle in the ER, and after saving her from a brutal attack, he can't get her out of his head. When Priya puts her family's wishes before their relationship, agreeing to an arranged marriage with another man, Tyler is devastated.
But love is fierce and unreasonable and clashes with the carefully sculpted life her parents want for her. Is going after her heart such a big deal, or will it truly unravel Priya’s world?
