Living in an alternate 1897 London, Finley Jayne doesn't act like a normal Victorian lady. When the son of her employer attacks her, she fights back and knocks him out cold. Finley is found by a mysterious group led by 18-year-old Griffin King, the Duke of Greythorne. Griffin wants to help Finley control her dark side. This is a really good steampunk story. I was immediately drawn into the plot and characters' lives. I wanted to jump into the book and shake the characters for being stupid at times. They seem rather naïve, but I still liked them. This book ends with a cliffhanger. I am going to need to get the next book. 5 stars.

Annabelle is turning 17 and she has been promised to a vampire. Anna's father is really cruel. He has said that Anna will have two suitors and then she will choose which man she will marry between Christian and Victor. Christian is a shape shifter called a skin walker and Victor is a vampire. There is considerable enmity between the two of them. There were a few editing and grammatical errors but that didn't take away from enjoying the story for me. The vampires and skin walkers are at war though other shape shifters are good. Skin walkers change shape into other people, while shape shifters take the form of animals. Christian is a very sadistic villain. He is obsessed with Anna. “Little puppets, how I long to pull your strings. Make you dance, twirl, and scream. A twisted game, we can play with three. Little puppets (,) will you play with me(?)” Some of this story was really violent. I found it pretty exciting. 4 stars.

It is the year 2135 and Lana has been called in by her boss to assess the damage in the aftermath of a nuclear attack. The genetically altered, Brady has been charged with protecting Lana. Brady is a solider hunting down insurgents and Lana is a fed analyst and member of the Vice President's staff. This book was a little slow to get into but by chapter 6 it started getting really good and I couldn't stop reading it. There is a war but it isn't perfectly clear who is good and who is bad. The lines are blurred. The rich. The poor. The PMF, insurgency rebellion. Feds. The people and the government. It isn't entirely clear who is right and who is wrong. Lana uncovers a conspiracy and Brady turns out to be different than who she originally thinks he is. Everything Lana believes to be true is shaken as she learns to love her Guardian. A very well written, romantic, futuristic adventure. 4 stars.

Claire turns 18 and goes to get her donor I.D. She will then regularly donate blood to the blood bank to feed the vampire royal family. Some people protest donating blood to the vampires. There is a lot of propaganda in the society hyping the greatness of the vampires and what an honor it is to donate blood to them. A human representative from the vampire royal family comes to Claire's home and says that her blood is perfect and the vampires are really excited by it. I think this is a clever concept that vampires have convinced humans to willingly donate their blood. It makes sense, people donate blood, plasma and other bodily fluids for money. Claire is a very reluctant vampire princess. I didn't really like Claire too much. I was having problems getting into the story. I was getting bored through a lot of it. The writing is good. The story has promise. A mysterious man who belongs to Claire is interesting. But it didn't quite all come together for me. 3 stars

This book was gifted to me by the publisher (Harlequin UK Ltd) for an honest review. Thank You!

34-year-old Jazz is sitting in a bar when a man approaches her and hands her a red envelope. In the envelope is a check for a 100 thousand dollars and a letter saying she should partner with an unknown agency to open the private investigator's office that she has been wanting to open. Jazz and her new partner Lucia are very suspicious of the job offer. Jazz is attracted to the Lawyer Borden but she is pretty sure he is keeping something from her. There is a strange explanation regarding Actors, Choruses and Leads. Some people are important and cause ripples. Then it is explained that the world will end and Jazz is one of two people who can prevent this catastrophic apocalyptic event. This book ends on a cliff hanger so now I'm mad and have to find the next book. I wasn't really liking the story so much, the flow seemed off to me. It seemed to me that the story would work much better as a t.v. series then a book. It reminded me a lot of some t.v. shows that I have seen before. 3 stars.

16-year-old Meridian is sickly, has constant aches and pains and wakes up every morning with animal corpses in her bed. Meridian is told she is a Fenestra and has to live with her great-aunt. At her Auntie's, Meridian meets a rude boy Tens and a wolf, Custos. Fenestra are the window which souls of the dead travel through to Heaven. Aternocti escort souls to Hell. Tenskatawa Valdes (Tens) is Meridian's protector. The Aternocti want to kill the Fenestra or turn them bad, into Nocti. There is an evil preacher who has taken over the small town of Revelation and proclaimed Auntie to be a witch. This reminded me of the Charley Davidson series by Darynda Jones in that souls pass through Meridian like they do Charley. But Meridian has a really hard time with opening and closing her window passage for the souls. This was an interesting concept and there was a lot going on. But it didn't quite come together for me. 3 stars.

This is the sequel to Wings where Laurel discovers she is a faerie. She is torn between loving Tamani the faerie and her human boyfriend David. Laurel has been summoned to attend the Academy of Avalon for eight weeks during summer vacation, so that she can get a faerie education. There she is introduced to faerie prejudice. Spring faeries like Tamani are the majority and a lower social class than she is as a Fall faerie. The Spring faeries are the help. Fall faeries are called mixers. Summer faeries are called sparklers. Winter faeries are very rare. And Spring faeries call themselves ticers. Laurel has a lot of problems with her concoctions. None of her potions seem to work out the way she wants them to. Her mother seems to be unable to accept her being a faerie and their relationship is tense. I liked the first book of this series, Wings, better than this one. Spells was starting out really slow. Over halfway through the story, it starts getting exciting with trolls and a human militia hunting supernatural creatures. Laurel is stuck between two worlds, the human world and the faerie world and she is having a hard time deciding which world she belongs in. I personally like Tamani better than David. But Laurel doesn't remember her life as a faerie, she only remembers being raised as a human. This book ends on a cliffhanger so I guess I need to get the next book. 4 stars.

Administrative assistant Ann Smith is in love with Jasha Wilder. Ann intends to seduce Jasha, so she shows up to his isolated home unannounced and catches him changing into a wolf. This book has love, eroticism, excitement and magical mystery. 4 stars.

Jessica is waiting for the bus at the crack of dawn when she sees a mysterious man wearing a cloak. In her mind she hears the man call her by her birth name: Antanasia. Lucius Vladescu is the imposing foreign exchange student in Jessica's English class who seems rather interested in her bleeding finger when she gets a paper cut.

In this age of Twilight and True Blood, I would think any European stranger with a predilection for wearing black and getting all crazy over a drop of blood would be walking around with a neon sign flashing: VAMPIRE!

Jessica was adopted in Romania. Her “birth parents had been ignorant, superstitious people duped into joining a cult.” And her real name is Antanasia Dragomir. Jessica is a very reluctant vampire princess and Lucius is her imperious, privileged, arrogant, stick up his butt, royal, bethrothed.

Jessica and Lucius are definitely an odd couple. Jessica is a farm girl while Lucius is aristocratic. And Jessica is practical and rational. She doesn't believe in the fantastical. Lucius pops his fangs twice and she still doesn't believe in vampires.

Jessica is torn between her human normal life with nice guy Jake and a world she knows nothing about, a vampire Romanian royal with not so nice Lucius. Then there is the mean girl at school and the bully who calls out the angry mob with torches and pitchforks to add to the conflict.

Jessica's vegan, hippy parents are really funny. A lot of this book, I thought, was really clever. This is a very cute, young adult, vampire love story. I liked it a lot. 4 stars.
